Philosophy of the project

In addition to questions of content, the ‘egg’ object also raises scenographic and ethical questions about consumer behaviour, the responsible use of food in performances and the general care and sustainable choice of materials in artistic processes. Both performers are very keen to address these questions honestly and responsibly and to make uncompromising decisions in this regard: All the eggs are sourced from chickens that have fresh air and can see the sky and of which the performers know the hen owners and living conditions personally.

Imagine a long table at which a large group is sitting. A communal atmosphere, people greeting each other. People are chatting, people are waiting, it feels like an extended family gathering.
An egg rolls across the table and falls to the floor. Or did one of those present feel responsible for holding it? The shell breaks and the transparent to yellow mass runs out from between. Mass that contains life. Corny, isn't it? Reprehensible somehow? Careless to handle a fragile, vulnerable object like this?

The newly formed extended family around the table is invited to listen to personal, intimate accounts of the fragility within the performers' family structures. The focus is on the role of women on farms, transgenerational patterns, layers of protection and the hard shell that women acquire within these structures. The performers work with the object of the egg and use it as a starting point to investigate connections between its symbolism and their own memories and experiences.

Eggs are broken, shells are crushed and all this is done with the greatest possible care. Brutality has different consistencies. Nothing is thrown away. At the end, we eat together.
